Academics Committee
This committee implements policies to improve student-faculty relations and academic procedures. The committee collaborates with the Directors of Undergraduate Studies to discuss campus-wide issues.
Colin McNamara
Vice-Chair | Sociology Representative
Colin McNamara is a senior majoring in Sociology. This is his second year serving on DSAC, and he is eagerly looking forward to working with the Academics Committee to improve student-faculty relationships and create a more robust and cohesive BSOS community. Colin is interested in doing research in political sociology and is passionate about answering the pressing questions raised by today’s rapidly changing political landscape from a sociological perspective. Colin’s other interests include philosophy, history, and music, and he hosts a show at WMUC, UMD’s student-run radio station.

Alexis Leslie
Hearing and Speech Sciences Representative
Alexis Leslie is a junior majoring in Hearing and Speech Sciences. This is her second year serving on DSAC and her first year as the HESP representative. She is very excited to work with the academics committee to support and connect BSOS students to academic opportunities. On campus, Alexis is a HESP honors student and will begin as a research assistant in the LANTERN Lab this semester. She is passionate about education policy and language sciences. This past summer, she interned with Parks & People where she helped first grade students build essential reading and math skills. After college, she aspires to pursue a master’s in speech language pathology.

Inti Prada
At-Large and Environmental Sciences and Policy Representative
Inti Prada is a senior majoring in International Relations and PPE, with minors in French and History. This is her first year serving on the council. As part of the Academics Committee, she hopes to improve academic offerings to better meet the interests and goals of the student body. On campus, Inti is a member of Kappa Omega Alpha — UMD’s professional public policy fraternity — and is an ambassador for the college of Arts and Humanities. In addition, she participated in the Global Fellows Program and worked as a philosophy tutor. Through her work at the International Rescue Committee, Inti helped provide legal support to immigrant and refugee families, which solidified her interest in pursuing law school after graduating from UMD. Above all, Inti is looking forward to spending her last year at UMD giving back to the campus community that shaped her and helped her achieve her goals.

Carlos Sanchez
International Relations Representative
Carlos Sanchez is a senior majoring in International Relations and minoring in U.S. Latina/o Studies. This is his first year serving as the International Relations Representative on DSAC, and he’s excited to serve on the Academics Committee to strengthen relationships between student and faculty across BSOS. Carlos is passionate about uplifting marginalized communities and expanding access to opportunities for students of all backgrounds.
Carlos previously interned with Delegate Andre V. Johnson in the Maryland General Assembly, supporting outreach to diverse communities in Northeast Maryland. On campus, Carlos has served as Editor-in-Chief of La Voz Latina, UMD’s bilingual newspaper, and currently works as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for GVPT200. After graduation, he plans to continue pursuing public service through graduate study in law or related fields.
