Get Ready to Make Your Move!
A new semester is upon us and you know what that means: the almighty, campus-wide Career & Internship Fair! This semester, the Spring Career & Internship Fair will be hosted from February 26th to February 28th from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. each day in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union.
We are about two weeks out from the first day of the fair so, now is the time to start preparing. How should you prepare? Well, keep scrolling for some common tips and tricks to succeed!

What to Know Before You Go

Register!
To attend the Spring Career & Internship Fair, please register via Handshake here.
Here you can learn more details about the event and see what employers will be in attendance!
Use the ‘All Employers’ tab to scroll through who’s coming and note who you’ll be visiting. Also, make sure to check out the filters in the left-hand column to only see employers that fit your individual needs and interests.

Review!
Your resume will be one of the most important items you carry with you during the fair. If an employer asks for one or if you would like to leave one for an employer, you’ll want to make sure it is in tip-top shape beforehand so you know you are putting your best foot forward!
Fixing It Up
- Relevance: Your resume is never meant to be a hardened document. You are able to change and tailor your resume to whatever job or internship you are applying to; it is all about the experiences you include in it! If you are interested in government employers, try to really highlight opportunities you have had in government spaces!
- Action Words: In each of your bullet points for your experiences, you’ll want to use strong action verbs that not only accurately depict what you have done but also pique the interest of the employer. You could try to use action words found in the employer’s mission or purpose statement to really impress them!
- Format: Making your resume visually appealing is just as important as the substance of the content within it. While the colorful, fancy font filled resumes you may find on Google or TikTok may be aesthetically pleasing, they may be considered “too busy/flashy” to employers. When it doubt, keep it simple!
The Final Touches
- Compare: The Feller Center website has some resume examples on their website here. Use them to see how your could improve on your own resume!
- Schedule: The Feller Center also provides career and internship advising appointment for BSOS students. Schedule your appointment for resume review help, mock interview preparation, and more here!

Robe Up!
The cherry on top to your preparation before the fair is knowing what to wear! Looking your best can really encourage you to put your best foot forward.
In general, business casual is recommended for career and internship fairs but, life happens! If you find you may not have time to change in between classes, work, or travel, try not to stress too much.
However, consider the jobs you are interested in. If they generally require suits and ties, it may be best to try and work out an outfit change instead of your usual class outfit.
No Fair? No Problem? Here’s How to Stay Ahead
Have class during the fair? Fallen sick the day before? Do not fret! Here are some things you can do in lieu of the Spring Career & Internship Fair.

Research!
Just because you can’t attend doesn’t mean you can’t still look through the employers in Handshake!
Make note of the employers that sound interesting to you, find their company website, and peruse the pages! Maybe you’ll stumble across an open job listing or internship opportunity there!

Reserve!
Whenever you find that you have free time in your schedule, meet with a career advisor at the Feller Center to develop your professional persona! Schedule an appointment here!
Here are some topics you can meet with a Feller Center advisor to discuss:
- Job Search
- Internship Search
- Mock Interviews
- Resume Review
- Graduate School Preparation
- Etc.

Remember!
There are so many more career and internship fairs to look forward to hosted by BSOS, if the campus-wide one is not in the cards for you.
